Dr Patrick O'Meara
General Practitioner
Dr. Patrick O’Meara: GP Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine
Dr O’Meara says practicing medicine allows lifelong learning, helping others, and a connection to scientific research, all of which are important to him.
He grew up in Detroit, Michigan, went to medical school in Chicago, and completed his Family Medicine Residency in Denver, Colorado. He then lived on the coast of Oregon for five years and in Western Colorado for 20 years before moving to New Zealand. Seeing children walking to school together, watching people talking to each other in the car park at the supermarket, and the friendliness of the Gore community stole his heart, especially Whiskey Creek Falls and the Hokonui Hills.
Dr O’Meara has a beautiful Portuguese Water Dog named Lily, who now lives with his daughter and her fiancé, since it would have been too stressful on Lily to go through the quarantine process to bring her into New Zealand.
He loves his wife’s Mexican feast with vegetarian tacos, guacamole, homemade salsa, Spanish rice and street corn. If he’s lucky, this might be paired with one of her signature Margaritas.
